For the new year I decided to write down a fact that I learn each day. It is true what they say, you learn something new everyday! Enjoy and I hope you learn something new.

FACT 55
A filmmaker named Patrick Mureithi came to our school the other day to share his film entitled ICYIZERE: Hope. It was a documentary about survivors of the Rwandan Genocide. I learned a great deal from him. One thing that stuck out was how much the media affected the whole situation. The news media played a huge role in the genocide. Local print and radio fueled the killings with songs and hate speech against Tutsis. The international media either ignored or misconstrued the situation. Media can be a very bad thing sometimes.
